Option 1
Photography is a technique for capturing an object’s picture on a light-sensitive surface by using light or similar radiation. This term, which was originally used in the 1830s, is derived from the Greek words photos (“light”) and graphein (“to draw”). A photograph has the power to inspire, engage, and move people, much like a painting does. With a crispness and tonal range that highlight the natural beauty of its subject, it could be a black-and-white Ansel Adams panorama of a snow-capped mountain reflected in a lake (Kislinger & Kotrschal, 2021).
According to Nickel (2001),  new method of capturing visual images was introduced with the invention of the first camera, the Camera Obscura, whose image recording technique was based on the optical design of the eye. As a result, early cameras registered images similarly to the eye. It was initially conceived as an attempt to “extend” the human eye and was regarded as a more advanced “eye” of sorts. The goal must have been to use the “more advanced” eye the Camera obscura—to collect more details or data than the human eye could. Artists utilized a “film less” version in the beginning for sketching. Indeed the invention of camera has changed the art by using the more detailed and and detailed data about images than the human eye.
One explanation for the birth of Impressionism is that it was an artistic reaction to the newly developed medium of photography. Similar to how Japonisme emphasized daily life, photography also impacted the Impressionists’ desire to capture a “snapshot” of regular people going about their daily lives. The creation of fixed or still images gave individuals a new tool for capturing reality, altered how artists in particular and people in general experienced the world, and opened up new avenues for artistic expression.
christina Hello Class!
In the 19th century, the camera was a groundbreaking invention. The camera paved the way for a new form of art, photography. “Traditional photography is very much about cameras, lenses, and shutter speeds, all of which control what the photographer is likely to capture” (Martin, 2018, p. 296). However, over the 20th, and now 21st century, this art of photography has evolved further. Digital photography became more prevalent within the 21st century. Thus, the smart phone camera was developed.
The smartphone camera has changed photography today. At the tips of our fingers, we can now take pictures and save moments all within the same device we use to communicate with others. Though the quality of these cameras is not the same as which you would get from a photographer, the simplicity is what appeals the average American. However, when you do not use the professional photographer, and professional camera there are areas of light that the digital camera will miss. The lens on a smartphone is not the same as the lens on a camera, in fact, lens on cameras are often time changed during photography in order to capture the best light, and setting within the photos. There is no denying that the smartphone camera has allowed the average American to save and cherish moments. There is also no denying the quality of photography that is lacking within the smartphone camera.
As technology revolutionizes, such as the smartphone camera, so does the applications within these smartphones. Social media has allowed for greater communication among people all across the world. It has increased the ability for connections and relationships. With increasing communication, social media platforms have also changed the way we share photos. People share special moments on these platforms for others to see. In fact, you can even stream live with your camera and people can see in the moment what is happening. There is good and bad in everything. Social media can be addicting. Posting photos can cause people to feel as though they are measured on their likes of a photo instead of who they truly are as a person. However, to be able to share a photo of your family, or a proud moment in your loved one’s life can give a person joy as well. With a click of a button I know can send photo’s or videos to my grandmother whom doesn’t see my child often. Therefore, the communication reflects more in live time. Balance is key to social media management.
