Discussion Topic: Human Trafficking & Sex Work
Traffickers facilitate and support prostitution throughout the world. That said, legalized prostitution in parts of Europe, Nevada, and elsewhere is sometimes cited to illustrate the voluntary nature of at least some sex work. The International Union of Sex Workers insists that its members do not want to be “rescued”, and some observers question whether a prostitute who claims to love her pimp should even be viewed as a victim. Do you think that legalizing and regulating prostitution would reduce trafficking and protect the health and safety of sex workers? Why or why not?
