long?
G. How will the results be disseminated

Portfolio Project Overview
Evidence Based Practice and Quality Improvement
Portfolio Project Overview
The portfolio project is designed to support your exploration of Evidence Based Practice
and Quality Improvement. Skill development in discovery of evidence to influence
practice, application of course concepts, and evolution as a scholarly writer will
culminate in a final presentation.
The multi-part portfolio project is designed to support achievement of the following
course outcomes:
1. Combine theory, evidence, clinical judgment, research, and interprofessional
perspectives to improve practice and health outcomes for patient aggregates.
2. Analyze considerations for the ethical conduct of research and the application to
practice.
3. Describe collaborative approaches to improve care outcomes and support policy
changes derived from scholarly evidence.
4. Analyze quality improvement methods to promote culturally responsive, safe,
timely, effective, efficient, equitable, and patient-centered care.
Overview of Portfolio Project
The portfolio project for this course enhances your ability to identify a clinical problem
and develop an evidence-based quality improvement plan to address the clinical

problem. Consider an area of clinical practice or patient care at your institution that
needs to be improved. Some examples might include poor patient satisfaction scores,
high hospital-acquired infection rates or falls on your unit, or long wait times in the ER.
Consider data that you may have to support your choice of this area for
improvement. Do you have HCAHPS scores for example? Data on infection
rates? Your 5-part course portfolio project will focus on the one area for improvement
that you have selected.
Please read all five assignments that comprise the total portfolio project to glean a
better understanding of the overall process. Parts of the project:
You will develop a PICOT question to address the identified issue (part 1),
Search quantitative and qualitative research studies to find solutions that other
institutions have used to address the same issue (parts 2 & 3),
Summarize and apply the evidence/literature and describe the quality
improvement process for making a healthcare policy change at your
institution(part 4),
Present the project to your peers (part 5).
